Program Spring 2025 Update

The move into full-time care and the loss of an elder's home can threaten one's identity, belonging and sense of self.

Changing technology makes seniors' access to personal music equipment harder, as tapes, CD's, and iPods phase out, replaced my music streaming services. That is where Heart for Music steps in, helping elders in local care homes by supporting their music accounts, providing individual seniors with personal headsets, speakers, music-playing tablets and percussion instruments. Our music program bridges the isolation gap, connecting seniors with family members, youth, and each other through music experiences.

"The Listening Centers we have been able to set up for the residents have brought so much joy and comfort to their lives. One resident was feeling very anxious and we helped him to find a guided meditation to listen to. It helped him feel more at ease and he has since come back to use it again, and to listen to some of his favourite songs."

2025 Winter/Spring Recap

So far in 2025 we sent the Heart for Music Donation to Seven Care Homes, working with them to set up familiar music on personal devices for over 100 seniors. We supported Ten Care Homes re-launch and expand the Heart for Music program to more residents with donations and training calls. We are continuing to offer this program donation to care homes across Canada, and supporting our live programs in BC care homes.

Community Event

In March we set up at a charity hockey game, where attendees enjoyed a Vancouver Canucks Alumni vs. Surrey Eagles game. Kids and adults spun the wheel for HFM merch and learned about the program, and we teamed up with Oak Bay Volunteer Services to share the love of music with the community at our Silent Disco table. A big thank you to both our volunteers and the student volunteers from Saint John Paul II Academy who hosted our tables!

"Our residents truly enjoy using the iPads as part of the Heart for Music program. The ability to listen to music brings so much joy as they reminisce about their favorite songs, often sparking fond memories and meaningful conversations. The speakers and headphones further enhance their experience, providing a personal and immersive connection to the music. For residents with hearing difficulties, these devices have been especially impactful, allowing them to engage fully in the program. The technology has been an incredible tool in bringing smiles and providing moments of calm and entertainment to our residents."
